Lions’ win in Australia

Rob Howley, the assistant coach of the British and Irish Lions and the Wales Rugby Team believes that the Lions’ win over Australia in the summer test series has given the players of the Welsh national side enough confidence to do the same with the Wales national team. He feels that the win over the Australians at their own backyard can help the confidence of the players of the Six Nations champions and aid them reach another level where they can finally beat one of the big three.

The Wales national team had 10 players on show in the first team in the series clincher against The Wallabies and each of those players played a key role in the demolition of the Australian team last weekend. And according to Howley, having tasted success over The Wallabies with The Lions, it will provide a huge psychological lift for the players of the Wales Rugby Team when they next come up with a side from the Southern Hemisphere.

Wales take on South Africa at home in the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff in the autumn and Howley believes that the team will go into the matches against the South Africans full of self belief after their success Down Under. The Wales attack coach stated that from the perspective of the Welsh national team, they have been there many times and come very close but still didn’t quite go the distance.

He went on to mention that when they next take on a side from the Southern Hemisphere, they can go into the match knowing they have beaten them and beaten them by the magnitude they have over the last fortnight or so. Overall, 15 players from the Wales Rugby Team were selected for the British and Irish Lions, the most since the 1977 tour.

Jones promises London Welsh will be back

Lyn Jones, the Director of Rugby of the Rugby Football Union Championship club the London Welsh has vowed to take his relegated side back to the Aviva Premiership at the first attempt next season. And the 48 year old also believes that the club being able to retain its base at Oxford is also vital to the club being able to sustain it in the future. Jones has also promised that the club plans to hold on to its best players in the next season and hence, he is confident of bouncing immediately back.

Jones mentioned that there is a lot of desire as well as passion for the club to retain its base at Oxford and hence, he hopes that the club will do it. The former Director of Rugby of the Ospreys stated that the club needs extremely strong leaders at the top of its offices in order to take the club forward and Oxford holds a key place to the future development of the club.

The Exiles moved to their current home at the Kassam Stadium in Oxford after a successful appeal after winning the RFU Championship playoff at the end of last season and moved from their old home of Deer Park. However, the hopes of the club of surviving their first season in the top flight were shot down when they were docked points for fielding an ineligible player. But the club did finish the season on a high with a 33-22 win over the Worcester Warriors and it is this victory that is giving Jones confidence ahead of the new season.

He added that it is pleasing to be leaving the Aviva Premiership with their heads held high and added they are bidding goodbye only temporarily and promised they will be back very soon.
