KIRWAN:I DON’T THINK GEORGE NORTH IS IN FORM

Sir John Kirwan, All Blacks wing great has noted that he doesn’t believe George North is in form to feature in any test.

He however states that Warren Gatland, Lions Coach believes the Wales Rugby Team winger can deliver. Kirwan also adds that North must perform at the Eden Park or be booted out by Gatland.

“I don’t think George North is in form, but Warren Gatland knows that he can deliver,” said Kirwan.

“I think he’ll give North one Test and he needs to show some of that quality in that first Test.” he added.

Back in 2016 when Wales toured New Zealand, they lost out on all three Tests. However, one positive to be taken out of the games was North’s performances which remained a bright spot for them.

“Last year when the Welsh were here he cut us up… I just think he’s got the quality,” said the 52 year old Kirwan.

In their victorious 2013 tour to Australia, the 25 year old started all three Tests and scored two tries. Continue reading

Welsh Former Captain Seeks Changes

The Champions Cup continues to the final stages in the forthcoming weekends.

Welsh sides will also have a quarter final game as one of their former captains insist that changes need to be brought in with regard to leveling out the playing field among the different clubs across borders in the continent.

The coming Sunday will see Stade Francais playing against Ospreys. A day before that Gloucester will face Cardiff Blues which will be held at Kingsholm. Both the games will surely bring some change and progress, but meanwhile Paul Thorburn, who has been tournament director of the 1999 World Cup feels that the odds of wins are stacked increasingly in favor of those clubs that are wealthy enough to afford non national players. He also feels that the laws need to be revised as to how many non-national players can be part of any European rugby team. Continue reading

IRELAND MAY HAVE TO ADOPT SCOTLAND’S STYLE – SHANE WILLIAMS

When the Six Nations kicked off and the opening round begun, Wales and Ireland found themselves in two very different places.

For the Wales Rugby Team, they were looking forward in optimism having come away with a hard-fought victory over their Italian counterparts. Thus, they successfully completed the onerous task of playing Italy first in the competition.

On the other hand, Ireland went on against Scotland at Murrayfield where they ended up in a disappointing defeat to their Scottish counterparts. Thus, there hopes of a Grand Slam and Triple Crown were thrown out almost immediately.

The championship competition has just two more rounds left to go and Ireland knows that with a win over Wales in Cardiff, they would most probably be able to secure a winner takes all clash in Dublin’s Aviva Stadium against England on St. Patrick’s weekend. Continue reading

Former Coach Backs Italy

Italy’s former coach Nick Mallett reckons that the Italians are in with a fighting chance of winning as they look to take on Wales in the first of the Six Nations clashes this Sunday.

With Italy at home, and undefeated since early 2016 (when they were beaten by Australia) things are looking up for the Azzurri. Whilst they have taken points of the French and Scottish in previous tournaments, they rarely manage to get any points from their clashes with the Welsh teams (both domestically and internationally) – but that might all yet change in Rome this year!
